Project:
Norway PM Erna Solberg 2017 Reelection Campaign
Description:
HIPSTORY collaborated with the Norwegian Prime Minister’s 2017 campaign, helping lead to her reelection.
In 2017, HIPSTORY collaborated with the reelection campaign for Prime Minister Erna Solberg of Norway. As the portrait was for a specific political cause, the campaign requested a slightly different take than our regular HIPSTORY icons: they wanted a portrait that not only reflected who Solberg truly is, but also that inspired voters to hit the ballot boxes.
HIPSTORY worked hand-in-hand with the head of the reelection campaign, fitting their needs while expressing our creative vision. The end result was a portrait of Solberg that emphasized her immense positivity: hearts, smiles, and the characteristic Norwegian V-sign gesture, which stands for victory. The portrait was used across social media campaigns, and in merchandise such as shirts, cups, stickers and more. Importantly, it found an audience amongst young voters who through sharing it created organic social media buzz.
For us at HIPSTORY, the campaign functioned as a proof-of-concept of how we are able to communicate our brand values towards global, cross-cultural audiences. This success was recognized by the 2018 Polaris Awards, who awarded us a silver medal for best overall campaign. We also received positive press for it.
In the end, Solberg won her reelection!! Her campaign was ecstatic about the portrait, letting us know that data showed the portrait had brought massive amounts of engagement. Our collaboration was definitely deserving of a V-sign.
The most validating aspect? We’re working together again, this time on Solberg’s 2021 reelection campaign. Stay on the lookout!
