Project:
Mexican #GoVote Campaign
Description:
HIPSTORY worked with a nonpartisan Mexican organization to help incentivize a nationwide #YOSIVOTO voting campaign.
For the 2018 presidential elections, the Mexican #YOSIVOTO campaign - a nonpartisan organization that works to incentivise nationwide voting - reached out to partner with HIPSTORY. They wanted to generate greater voting awareness, and thought HIPSTORY icons were the right way to do so. Of course, we responded “Si! #YOSIDIBUJO.”
For the campaign, the artist behind HIPSTORY, Amit Shimoni, created portraits of the five leading candidates, illustrating each with characteristics that allowed them to shine, both individually and together. The portraits were used in nationwide social media campaigns leading up to the elections. They were also printed on merchandise that was sold nationwide and worn by many local influencers.
It turned out that candidates loved their illustrated alter-egos! They adopted them for their campaigns, and could often be found signing voter apparel with their portraits on them. Mexican press quickly caught on, interviewing the campaign about the viral sensation.
The #YOSIVOTO campaign succeeded in inspiring voters to turn out - it was reported that the elections had the highest youth voting percentage in recent history. HIPSTORY was proud to work on such an international and culturally diverse project, bridging the gap between the campaign and young audiences, and inspiring people to act.
